Kent State gymnasts travel to Bowling Green
February 1, 2013
Coming off a victorious home tri-meet against George Washington and Western Michigan, Kent State (4-2; 1-0 MAC), is ready for a conference meet at 4 p.m. Saturday against Bowling Green (1-3; 1-1 MAC) at Anderson Arena in Bowling Green.
“We’re excited to be going down to compete against Bowling Green,” Flashes coach Brice Biggin said. “They are one of our foes in our conference. They’re a team that has improved a lot over the past couple years, and we know we’re going to have great competition.”
The Flashes placed first in all four events in the home tri-meet, including the All Around. Junior Marie Case took first in three events, placing first in the All Around. Her performance at the meet led to Case being named as the MAC Gymnast of the Week. In addition to Case, senior Rachel Guida was named the MAC Specialist of the Week.
While Kent State did win its competition against George Washington and Western Michigan, the balance beam was their true foe for the evening, causing the Flashes’ score to plummet along with their confidence.
“We have to get a good week of practice,” Case said. “We’ve got to hit [consistent] routines. We have to get confidence in everybody and everyone else’s routines. As long as we go there and do our jobs, we should end up on top.”
About Bowling Green
The Bowling Green Falcons defeated Eastern Michigan last week for their first win of the season with a score of 194.025, an accomplishment for the Falcons who have not broken the 194 mark since 2010. The win ended a three-meet losing streak, which included a loss to conference member Northern Illinois. Standout gymnasts Megan Harrington and Alyssa Nocella are the imminent threat to the Flashes this weekend, as both continue to battle for a spot in the All Around.
Up Next
The Flashes next meet marks a new beginning for both the gymnastics and wrestling teams, which are teaming up to compete in a Beauty and the Beast match. The event will take place simultaneously, with the gymnasts facing Rutgers and the wrestlers facing Cleveland State. The event is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m at the M.A.C. Center.
