Pedals for Heroes to hold fundraiser at rec center
February 22, 2013
Pedals for Heroes, an indoor cycling fundraiser across Northeast Ohio to benefit local veterans, will take place from 1 p.m. to 5:36 p.m. Sunday at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
Participants of the Pedals for Heroes fundraiser will cycle for every Ohio soldier who has sacrificed his or her life in the Middle East since September 11, 2001. There have been 276 fallen soldiers, so participants will cycle on stationary bicycles for 276 minutes.
“Fifteen gyms are participating in the Pedals for Heroes event his year,” said Cassie Schumacher, co-founder of Pedals for Heroes and cyclist for 22 years. “Last year, our first year having the event, around 11 gyms raised $16,000.”
Riders are responsible for their own fundraising. Minimum donations are $15 per half hour of cycling and $25 per hour of cycling. Riders can choose to participate individually or as a team.
Proceeds from the event are going to the Pedal for Heroes organization to help build awareness and raise funds for local veterans and their families.
Check-in for this event begins at 12:15 p.m. Those wanting to participate can visit the Fitness Suite in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center for more information or to register.
