Kent State’s 2011 national champion and fifth-year senior Dustin Kilgore added yet another accomplishment to an already impressive and seemingly endless list Wednesday when he was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season.

Kilgore, who went 5-0 at the Virginia Duals this past weekend with four pins and a forfeit, never even let his opponents see the third period Sunday, quickly putting them away with ease. Not even Arizona State’s Jake Meredith, who is No. 5 in this week’s Amateur Wrestling News Poll, could stop the 197-pounder’s dominant performance.

This past weekend, Kilgore increased his career win total to 162 and helped the Golden Flashes to dual wins over Arizona State, VMI and No. 25 Old Dominion. The Flashes’ career-victory leader also extended his winning streak to 46 matches, lengthened his dual-meet winning streak to 56 matches, and raised his season pin total to 11.

To say that Kilgore is having a “good” season is definitely an understatement. With a 27-0 record, 20 bonus-point wins and victories against three opponents ranked in the Top 5, Kilgore’s season is nothing short of phenomenal.

To cap off his remarkable season and monumental career at Kent State, Kilgore is closing in on the Golden Flashes’ career pins record. His 43 falls is also just three short of Kent State’s career leader Jim Swetter.

Kilgore and the Golden Flashes (4-3, 1-0 MAC) will return to action on Friday as they host their MAC rival Ohio (4-3, 2-1 MAC) Friday at 7 p.m. inside the M.A.C. Center.
