Kent State Greek life’s annual Songfest performance is sold out.

Songfest 2012 begins at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.

Bailey Wiland, Alpha Xi Delta sister and senior finance major, said this year’s Songfest is intended to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. According to their website, MDA is a national, non-profit organization committed to curing muscular dystrophy and similar disorders.

“This is a new cause we are raising money for this year and [we are] very excited about it,” Wiland said.

Songfest 2011 raised $30,000 for charity. Wiland said the goal every year is to outsell the previous year.

Dan Wilgus, Sigma Chi member and sophomore communications studies major, said each sorority in the competition will be paired with one of three fraternities. The groups will then perform a choreographed dance and skit, with one overarching winner at the end of the event.

“Our group has been practicing for three weeks and our goal is to raise as much money as possible along with winning the competition,” Wilgus said.

Wiland said the event is open to the public, but because of the amount of performers and organizations, tickets are sold out and general admission sales are not being offered.

Fraternities and sororities have been practicing for weeks to raise money and win the competition, Wiland said.

“I love the fact that we all can get together and be goofballs, but at the same time contribute to something that is so important,” Wilgus said.
