‘I Love You Because’ auditions take place at Kent Stark
November 25, 2012
Kent State University at Stark will hold auditions for “I Love You Because” at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 and 27 in the Fine Arts Building.
“I Love You Because” is loosely based on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” It is a romantic musical about two young people trying to find love in modern-day New York City. This play also includes comedy of misconnection and disconnection between characters.
“I wanted to choose a work that would resonate with the lives of students,” theatre director Brian Newburg said.
Newburg is casting a small crew of six performers. There are four major roles, and some actors will play multiple roles. Those auditioning can either perform selected scene excerpts or a prepared monologue. Students and community members are welcomed to audition.
“I look for promise,” Newberg said. “I look for those people who have promise to deliver. I try to look for someone who seems to have qualities that could translate to the character.”
Scripts and sides are available for 24-hour periods through the Fine Arts secretary. There are also technical production opportunities available such as stage and assistant stage managers, assistants to lighting, scenic, and sound and costume designers.
Audition appointments are recommended, but not required. Those interested can schedule through the Fine Arts secretary or call 330-244-5151.
