No matter what political leaning you have or which presidential candidate — if either — you want to win, every student should register to vote before time runs out.

Elections are when we get to influence the direction of the country — no pressure, but this is kind of a big deal.

Students like to use the excuse “but I don’t know how to register.” It’s actually fairly easy.

Students can register to vote at the University Library or the Portage County Board of Elections, which is located in the Portage County Administration Building at 449 S. Meridian St., Room 101, Ravenna. As Tuesday is the last day of voter registration, we suggest anyone who still needs to register goes straight to the closest registrar. Make sure to bring your driver’s license or another form of state or federal ID and know the last four digits of your Social Security number.

The whole process should take less than 10 minutes. That’s not so hard, is it?

So what if you’re registered somewhere else — either out of state or at another address other than Kent? The first option is to request an absentee ballot, but if you’d rather physically go to the polls, you can re-register using your school address. This also goes for students who live off-campus. Just remember when you actually go to the polls to have a proof of address — usually a recent utility bill.

Long story short, you have until 9 p.m. to get registered and ensure that your voice is heard.
