Kent State University’s Porthouse Theatre will open its 2012 season June 14 with “Damn Yankees,” a story about baseball in the 1950s.

“Damn Yankees” is set in Washington, D.C., during a time when the New York Yankees were on top of the baseball scene, and the story follows the life of a young baseball fan named Joe Boyd.

The musical, written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, has won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Director Terri Kent brings the show to the Cuyahoga Falls theater. Kent, Porthouse’s artistic director, also worked on “Chicago” last season and several other productions in the past.

The show runs from June 14 to 16, 19 to 23 and 26 to 30 at 8 p.m. and June 17 and 24 at 2 p.m.
