Life Flight took one female after she was thrown from the car in a rollover accident that occurred Thursday afternoon on River Bend Boulevard about half a mile from Theodore Roosevelt High School. Lt. Dave Moore of Kent Fire Department said two more females were trapped in the car after the accident and were rescued with the Jaws of Life.

“The car luckily rolled back upright,” Moore said. “[The victims] were all serious at the scene and all warranted trauma teams.”

The helicopter landed in the parking lot of the high school to airlift one of the victims to Akron City Hospital, according to a police scanner. Moore added that the other two victims were transported to Akron City and Akron Children’s hospitals, where they were both received by trauma teams.

Joe Giancola, superintendent of Kent City Schools, said Friday that all three victims were females from Roosevelt and all had been stabilized with some injuries.

“They have some injuries like broken bones and bruises, but thankfully they do not have any type of internal injuries and concussions that could have made the situation incredibly serious for them,” Giancarlo said. “It is serious, but at least they don’t have those kind of internal injuries that lead to a fatality.”

Giancola added that the students are still in the hospital for their injuries.

The occupants were headed toward State Route 43 from River Bend Boulevard when the driver lost control of the car, witnesses said. A witness added that the car rolled four times side-over-side before stopping.

Moore said that the Streetsboro, Stow and Brimfield fire departments also assisted.
