Three straight brothers of Delta Lambda Phi fraternity will speak and answer questions about their experiences as minorities in a gay world Friday.

During the event, titled “Straight in a Gay World,” straight members of the fraternity will address the audience about their experiences in a predominantly gay environment. The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the Kiva.

Delta Lamdba Phi is the only fraternity on campus that consists of primarily gay and bi members. Delta Lambda Phi President Christopher Moyer said he hopes the event will show students that the fraternity is open to a variety of members.

“We want to debunk the myth that you have to be gay to be a member of Delta Lambda Phi,” Moyer said. “The event will give the perspective of straight brothers, who are actually the minority within our group,” Moyer said.

Moyer said the event will be a good learning experience for all who attend.

“People will hear both funny and enlightening stories from these straight men,” Moyer said. “I hope that it will challenge people to put themselves in a position where they are the minority for a change.”

Will Pfeiffer, sophomore hospitality management major and vice president of Delta Lambda Phi’s chapter affairs, said he hopes the event will break down stereotypes surrounding the group.

“I know a lot of straight men would be afraid to be in a room full of gay men,” Pfeiffer said. “I hope the event will help show that there are stereotypes and sometimes they’re not true.”

Pfeiffer said he organized the event to help people understand Delta Lambda Phi and its mission.

“I want to get rid of the idea that we’re just a group of gay guys doing our thing,” Pfeiffer said. “We want to support all men, whether they’re gay, straight, or bi. We are a friend to all men.”
