Students to be awarded in annual art show
February 22, 2012
Thursday marks the beginning of the School of Art’s 65th Student Annual, a show to highlight undergraduate and graduate student’s work. The pieces will be displayed in the School of Art gallery.
A juror chose each piece of art from a vast amount of entries.
Amy Craft, executive director of Art House Inc., a Cleveland-based nonprofit arts center, was the juror this year. She chose which pieces will be shown, as well as which ones will receive awards.
“We don’t have corporate sponsorship,” said Anderson Turner, director of galleries. “This year, and in years past, the faculty have given a lot of money to be given away as prize money.”
Turner said that about a half dozen prizes will be awarded this year. In addition to the monetary awards donated by the faculty, these prizes will also include items from local sponsor All Media Art Supply Co.
The available prizes will be equally split between the undergraduate and graduate entries, Turner said. Both levels will each also have a best in show.
A reception will be held on Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. in the School of Art Gallery located on the second floor of the Art Building. The exhibit will then be available until March 14, Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
