Our View: Supermodel creates Super Bowl stir
February 7, 2012
Gisele Bundchen, wife of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, sent an email last week to her friends and family asking to pass along a positive chain and prayer for her husband and the team for Sunday’s big game.
According to the New York Post, Bundchen’s email said, “He and his team worked so hard to get to this point and now they need us more than ever to send them positive energy so they can fulfill their dream of winning this super bowl…” among other things.
Although the supermodel is from Brazil, where the main sport is futebol, it was endearing to see her get so excited about her husband’s big game — until they actually played and lost in a nail biter.
While exiting her box and leaving the stadium, Giants fans heckled her, and it struck a nerve. As cameras followed her, she turned to a friend and said, “My husband cannot fucking throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time.”
Well, it’s true, but a few other factors contributed to the loss. Fox News said it pretty well: “Of course Bundchen failed to mention Brady’s brain freeze on his team’s first possession, when her husband threw a pass from his own end zone to nobody in particular, leading to an intentional grounding penalty, which led to a safety and the first points of the game for the Giants.”
Don’t get too upset, Pats fans — at least Brady outperformed Madonna.
