Gov. Kasich to deliver address in Steubenville
February 6, 2012
Wells Academy, which is part of Steubenville City Schools, is the highest-ranking public elementary school in Ohio and will host the annual State of the State address Tuesday.
Higher education will be among the topics of discussion. Michael McVey, Superintendent of Steubenville City Schools, said the location was chosen because Gov. John Kasich wanted to recognize Wells Academy for its academic achievements.
“Steubenville City Schools is very honored that he’s able to recognize Wells Academy for their efforts and ranking in the state,” McVey said. “It’s recognition for how hard the staff and students work.”
In addition to having the highest-ranking elementary school, the district also has the second-highest-ranked elementary school (Pugliese West Elementary). Ranking is determined by test results.
The governor’s speech begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
