Tree City Coffee & Pastry woke up the Kent Community with its fresh brews and baked goods Monday morning.
Co-Owner Evan Bailey said the grand opening turned out an estimated 400 customers.
Bailey and Co-Owner Mike Beder came up with the idea a few years ago for a duel coffee shop and bakery that would meet the needs of everyone in the Kent Community.
“It was great to see all the years of work kind of culminate into a great opening day,” Bailey said.
Going with the community theme, Tree City Coffee & Pastry is partnered with Bent Tree Roasters in Kent and Cleveland-based Solstice Coffee and Tea Service.
“I think it’s great, just from the foot traffic that’s been here yesterday and today. People are very interested and excited,” said Lori Wemhoff, Executive Director of Kent Area Chamber of Commerce.
They also offer a wide variety of baked goods and even make their own peanut butter for those who can’t resist a classic PB&J.
One aspect of the coffee shop that makes Tree City Coffee unique is the drive-thru option.
“We have a drive-thru, too, which is a big convenience factor whether it be parents on the go, commuters or some of the students on the go,” Bailey said.
The coffee shop is even tailored toward students’ needs. They have nearly 40 outlets for students to plug-in as they power up with their caffeinated beverages.
Students will, also, be able to enjoy extended shop hours during finals week.
Bailey said they are planning to hold a wine tasting and other social events in the coming weeks.
