October 17, 2011
Kent State fashion students have the opportunity to showcase their designs in the Massillon Museum through a new competition.
“Another Look at the New Look” opens in January 2012 and takes an in-depth look at women’s fashion after World War II, which was greatly influenced by Christian Dior’s collection ‘The New Look’ in 1947.
“We are really interested in how students will reinterpret the look,” said Heather Haden, Massillon Museum curatorial intern.
The collection focuses on small waists with large, full skirts and corset tops.
The top three designs will be on display as part of the exhibition. The top designer of the three will be will be announced on the opening night of the exhibit, Jan. 21. The design will be added permanently to the Massillon Museum’s collection, which will run through April 1.
Former “Project Runway” contestant Steven Rosengard, is the curator for the exhibit as well as one of the judges for the competition. Other jurors include the director of the Massillon Museum and two Kent State faculty members.
“This is a great opportunity to have work seen and be a part of a museum exhibit,” Haden said.
Hard copies of entries are due by Friday.
