The KSU library will host its first Kent Reads of the year today.

It will be held in room 1018 of the library with guest speaker Mike Olszewski at 3 p.m.

Kent Reads is part of the Kent Reads, Kent Writes series that brings engaging faculty, administrators, alumni and students to read aloud from literary works.

Olszewski is a long-time radio and television personality, Kent State professor and historian. He will read and discuss from his new book, “WIXY 1260: Pixies, Six-Packs and Supermen.” The book was published by the Kent State University Press.

Olszewski said that the book attempts to “bring us back to an era that no longer exists.”

Radio has changed a lot since its first beginnings according to Olszewski.

“The radio I remember doesn’t exist,” Olszewski said. “They should realize that communications has moved past media.”

The way radio and television have progressed is historical.

“It’s really exciting,” Olszewski said. “But for somebody my age, it’s a bit disconcerting.”

Olszewski won an Emmy Award in 2009 for his work on “Radio Daze: Cleveland’s FM Wars,” a television documentary.

Despite his success, Olszewski continues to teach.

“A different generation can help me learn about how things have progressed,” Olszewski said. “Every time I’ve taught a class, I’ve learned something.”
