Don’t bother looking for Kent State in The Princeton Review’s newest college rankings. You won’t find it.

Each year for the past 20 years, The Princeton Review has ranked colleges on various subjects, including which college has the most parties, the best athletic facilities and the most beautiful campus.

Kent State University, however, has never made any of the rankings.

David Soto, director of college ratings at The Princeton Review, said not enough students at Kent State filled out The Princeton Review’s survey to make it into their book, “The 376 Best Colleges: 2012 Edition.”

“To date, we haven’t collected a representative sample of students,” Soto said.

Every year, Soto and an editorial board meet to select which schools make it into the annual edition of “The Best Colleges.”

Soto said he and the board base their decision on various aspects including the quality of a college’s academics and whether a “representative sample of the student body” has completed their survey.

Every year the board adds two or three colleges to the rankings. Last year’s edition ranked 373 colleges and 2010’s edition ranked 371 colleges.

“A lot of times, this can grow organically,” Soto said.

This year, The Princeton Review asked 122,000 students to rank their schools in 62 categories.

The Princeton Review then published the top 20 rankings for each category. Twelve percent of surveyed schools are left out of the published rankings, including Ohio schools like University of Cincinnati and Xavier University. Students can take the 15-minute survey and contribute their opinion of Kent State at http://survey.review.com.
