KSU Mashes Social Media

Kent State University is working on a social media project that will combine all current outlets into one easy website for students and faculty to use.
SMASHUP, short for social media mashup, is a project by a web development company, AllofE Solutions, that partners with universities from across the country and helps combine social media outlets to maximize interaction with students, according to its website.
“We will be working with Kent State to create a social media website that is designed specifically for Kent State,” said Katie Brosious, a SMASHUP representative. “It will help get the university’s social media a lot more exposure and will position Kent State as a leader in social media for universities.”
The website will integrate Kent State’s official website news with Kent State affiliated Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts, as well as with promotional news. LinkedIn, blogs, pictures and chat rooms can also be featured on the website.
“(Kent State’s) goal is to advance awareness, engagement and interactivity in our social media with individuals interested in connecting with Kent State,” said Lin Danes, Director of Web Services and Interactive Media.
Kent State is one of six colleges working with SMASHUP. Others include Youngstown State University, DePaul University and Northern Illinois University.
SMASHUP and Kent State hope to have the website active and featured on the Kent State main site prior to the start of the fall semester.
