Rachel Hagenbaugh’s playlist
April 6, 2011
This playlist is dedicated to all the Kent State students whose ears are stuck in 90s. All of the songs, with the exception of a few, are songs from the 1990s that adopted the alternative rock style. They’re not heavy metal, angry songs. Just songs with a good beat that everyone can enjoy.
“If You Could Only See” GreLemon Parade (1996) | Tonic
It’s a love song, but it’s not slow. It’s upbeat with a hint of rock — like the typical genre of the 1990s that we all know and love.
Selected Lyrics: Seems the road less traveled
Shows happiness unraveled
And you got to take a little dirt
To keep what you love
“Here’s to the Night” Horrorscope 2000 | Eve 6
Everyone has those friends they had to leave behind. It’s part of life, but this song brings back all those memories of Friday night football games and Saturday night bonfires.
Selected Lyrics: Put your name on the line along with place and time
Wanna stay not to go I wanna ditch the logical
Here’s a toast to all those who hear me all too well
“Nothing Else Matters” Metallica (The Black Album) (1991) | Metallica
Who would have thought Metallica could write something so beautiful and poetic? This song is like the perfect lullaby.
Selected Lyrics: Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
“Welcome Home” : Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes
Of Madness
| Coheed and Cambria
The best part about this song is the intro. It’s an orchestra of beautiful music. Since the lead singer’s voice sounds like a chipmunk, the background music enforces the anger in the song.
Selected Lyrics: You choked off the surest of favors
But if you really loved me
You would’ve endured my world
“Get a Clue” Ready Ready Set Go| Simon and Milo
This song is very upbeat and quirky. That’s simply the great thing about this song. It’s not serious, just a fun pop song that’s not like everything you hear on the radio.
Selected Lyrics: Nothing’s ever quite what it seems
Just look a little closer at me
Wake-up Who knew? It’s me, It’s you…Get a clue
