She used her second place finish in the 200-meter dash against Akron on Friday as her motivation.

“I’ve never ran indoor (track) before, so the 200 was my first indoor race,” Williams said. “I was really nervous and don’t think I did that good. It really frustrated me and got me down a little. Today, I feel like I know the 400 race more since I did the 4×4 (relay) last night and it helped me out a lot.”

Tisia ran the fifth fastest time in school history in the 5000-meter run, placing second with a time of 14:22.66. Tisia, coming off a long trip to Kenya, gave a strong performance in his opening meet and showed some of the Flashes’ strength in the distance area.

“I just work hard,” Tisia said. “I just work as much as I can. It takes passion.”

Sophomore Diana Dumitrescu, who is aiming to qualify for the national pentathlon next weekend, placed second in the women’s high jump with a leap of 5′-5.00″.

The Flashes host the All Ohio Championships next weekend at the Kent State Field House on Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22.
