INTRO: Franklin Township records above average voter turnout today in the mid term election. TV2 reporter Kassandra Meholick visited the Rusty Nail to ask the voters what they would say to the newly elected governor.
NAT: Car polling out of the parking lot.
Voters from Franklin Township came to the Rusty Nail today to cast their ballots. At 5PM the Portage County board of elections average turnout was 38 percent.
NAT: “Good bye” (poll worker to voter)
Franklin Township precincts A, B and C were ahead of average with nearly 50 percent of active voters having already voted.
Sugar Bush Knolls also votes at the location and saw 69 percent turnout as of 5PM.
NAT: Voters talking
The race for governor is close and the current polls predict Republican John Kasich leading current governor Democrat Ted Strickland by one percent.
I asked voters one simple question:
ALRIGHT, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THE NEW GOVENOR, WHOEVER THAT MIGHT BE.
SOT [MITCHEL]
BEST OF LUCK HAHA. ID LIKE TO SEE SURPORT FOR EDUCATION, SUPORT FOR HEALTH AND DO THE VERY BEST TO STRIAGHTEN OUT THE ECONOMY IN VERY TOUGH TIMES.
SOT [SMITH]
I THINK HE DOES HAVE A TOUGH JOB AHEAD OF HIM. I HOPE HE STRIVES TO SUPPORT OUR SECOND AMMENDMENT RIGHTS AND ALSO WORKS ON THE TAXES TO BRING BACK JOBS TO THIS AREA AND DECREASE TAXES FOR BUSINESSES, ESPECIALLY SMALL BUSINESSES. THEY ARE TAXED SO MUCH AS IT IS AND I THINK IF THEY DID AWAY WITH A LOT OF THE CORPORATE TAXES THAT THEY HAVE IN OHIO THEY WILL BRING BACK MORE BUSINESSES TO THIS AREA.
SOT [PROSKE]
WE NEED TO SUPORT EDUCATION AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY FEDERAL MONEYS AVALIBLE. SUPORT EDUCATION IN THIS STATE. DO NOT BE RELUCTANT TO SPEND STIMULUS MONEY BECAUSE THESE MONIES ARE RETURNED TO THE ECONOMY THROUGH UNEMPLOYMENT EXPENDETURES. AND THOSE ARE MY MAIN THOUGHTS.
For TV2 New, I’m Kassandra Meholick.
