Cheers and Jeers for November 10th

Cheers

Cheers to arrival of kendo at Kent State. It’s an interesting sport that makes this campus more diverse. Now all we’re missing is Quidditch.

Cheers to the honors students who participated in Empower Portage, or any student volunteers. It’s always a good time to give back to the community.

Cheers to the success of goodfuckingdesignadvice.com. Two students found a way to give advice and have some fun. We hope they get their master’s.

Jeers

Jeers to the rejection of collective bargaining for part-time faculty. We know the budget is tight, but part-time faculty deserve a chance for pay raises too.

Jeers to the missed approval deadline for the campus renovations payment plan. We hope this issue gets sorted out soon with a plan that won’t charge students.

Jeers to Gov.-elect John Kasich’s attempts to cancel Ted Strickland’s passenger rail project. Not only could the rail have connected Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, but it could have created thousands of jobs for Ohioans.
