Bio: Attorney General Richard Cordray received a master’s degree from Oxford University in England and a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School. It was at the University of Chicago Law School that he was editor of the Law Review. He currently lives near Grove City with his wife and twin children, and he is well known for competing on “Jeopardy!”

Cordray has spent his time as Attorney General speaking up for citizens by pursuing large Wall Street companies that scam citizens. Some of these include AIG, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch. His efforts against these companies have earned more than $2.5 million in settlements.

Cordray also spends time working with Ohio law enforcement to fight crime and protect citizens of Ohio.

In addition to serving as Attorney General, Cordray has served at Ohio treasurer, Franklin County treasurer, solicitor general and law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justices Byron White and Anthony Kennedy .

Issues:

1. Law Enforcement:

• Reduced the number of cases for laboratory tests that law enforcement officials and prosecutors use to make their cases

• Stresses the importance of working with local law enforcement agencies

• Ohio became the first state to implement the sex offender registration provisions of the federal Adam Walsh Act under Cordray’s administration

2. Economic Recovery:

• Has made Wall Street accountable for wrongdoing

• Has brought several lawsuits against Wall Street firms such as AIG, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch

• Filed dozens of cease and desist orders against foreclosure rescue scams

3. Healthcare:

• Felt the lawsuits filed against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was a waste of taxpayer resources

• Feels the healthcare reform law is in agreement with the Tenth Amendment

• Felt Congress adopted the “comprehensive economic approach” to fix the problems in the current health insurance system
