City sanctioned Halloween benefits Athens
October 27, 2010
Halloween is a reoccurring, spontaneous event.
Although students and locals flock to Main Street every year, no one officially plans the events that take place downtown.
Ohio University, which is also known for its Halloween block party, deals with the holiday a little differently.
Unlike Kent State, the city of Athens teams up with OU to plan the annual event.
City council sanctions the block party, and the community pitches in to ensure everything goes well.
“We meet every year to discuss what we can do better and what we can do different,” said Ron Lucas, assistant service-safety director for Athens.
