The only weak spot on the court lies in the baseline shot, as the sun’s angle can obscure any shooter from an easy swish through the net. Once it descends behind Twin Towers, though, no excuse in the world could cover up a turnover or air ball. The smooth surface of the cement court builds confidence in players that their quick jabs and crossovers will send them safely to the basket while the quiet murmur of passing cars and students holds no distraction — the court rests comfortably away from the corner of Loop Road and Eastway Drive. A lighted court for midnight matches. A strategic fence to fend off deflected basketballs. A courtside tree for courtside shade. The only worries left meandering through the mind of any player lies respectively in the score of the game or the pain in muscles that once jumped higher and ran faster.
