Brief PARTA bus fire causes alarm but no injuries
September 29, 2010
A PARTA bus’ exhaust started smoking and caught fire briefly earlier today as it was running the campus loop route up Hilltop Drive.
No one was hurt in the incident. The bus’ exhaust pipe was slightly charred.
A cloud of smoke billowed from the exhaust pipe on the top left side of the bus, as it pulled past Franklin Hall, leaving a trail of smoke from the bus stop at Franklin Hall to Cartwright Hall, where the bus parked to await inspection.
Lt. William Myers of the Kent City Fire Department said the smoke and fire were a result of an engine malfunction in which oil spilled onto the exhaust.
