Power outage along West Main
September 2, 2010
Power was knocked out briefly, but is back on after a switching gear malfunctioned at the Kent Substation at 1010 W. Main St.
The power outage is believed to be the cause of an electrical fire reported at Klaben Auto Group at 1106 W. Main St.
William Myers, Kent fire department lieutenant, said an electrical surge in the control switch had an adverse affect on the dealerships heating, ventilation, cooling and air conditioning system.
Klaben Auto Group employees said they saw smoke coming out of the ceiling around the same time the power went out.
“The lights just all started flickering,” Rich Fink, lot manager said.
Fire crews from Stow, Kent and Ravenna responded to the call.
Power was restored at 2:26 p.m.
Fire crews left Klaben Auto Group at 2:04 p.m.
