Comin’ at you from the Franklin Hall Newsroom, it’s Thursday March 25th, I am Betz Rund and here’s what’s happening.

A recent study of 9,000 families and individuals done by the Department of Housing and Urban Development showed that monthly apartment rent might be cheaper than a stay in a homeless shelter.

According to the study, the market rate for a one-bedroom apartment in Houston, Texas is $612 a month while the emergency shelter is $968.

For families, the market rate for a two-bedroom apartment in Houston is $743 a month while the emergency shelter is $1,391.

According to USA Today, the cost of emergency shelters varies greatly from state to state, and the study does not look at quality of programs or services provided.

In Kent State sports news, the university will be adding a new face to the mix.

Joel Nielsen has been chosen as the successor to Laing Kennedy as the universities new athletic director.

Nielsen, the former athletic director of the University South Dakota, was one of three finalists recommended by KSU’s search committee.

Nielsen, a graduate of Minnesota State, has served as the athletic director at Colorado College and associate athletic director for Wake Forest from 1993 to 2001 before moving to South Dakota in 2003.

By all reports, Nielson is egar to get started and said his top two priorities will be fundraising and building a strong football team.
