In the aftermath of Chile’s 8.8-magnitude earthquake, Phi Delta Theta is raising money for the American Red Cross’ relief effort by serving chili and snacks at the fraternity house.

“It helps people out that need the money and supplies,” said Matt Malinowski, president of Phi Delta Theta. “It shows that Greeks do what we can … anything we can do to help, we’re game.”

The fraternity will provide all-you-can-eat vegetarian, regular and spicy chili, as well as desserts and other food to event-goers for $5 a person.

Malinowski, a junior psychology major, said if the weather permits, people can play volleyball and cornhole outside and listen to some of the guys play guitar.

He said the fraternity brothers will be dressed up in sombreros and other festive gear, and he hopes it will be an atmosphere where people can just have fun.

Chili for Chile will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house on Fraternity Circle. All proceeds will go to the Red Cross fund to help victims of the Chile earthquake.

“It’s always good to help out and do what you can,” Malinowski said. “Whether it’s something simple, or something as big as an event, we need to do it.”
