Delta Upsilon Shoots Hoops for Haiti
January 30, 2010
Delta Upsilon is hosting a basketball tournament in support of Haiti at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center Saturday January 30.
The fraternity has rented out two courts for players and is accepting the first 32 teams to register in the tournament.
The tournament, which starts at 1 p.m., costs $10 per team, of which half goes to UNICEF’s Haiti Relief Fund. The other half of the proceeds will go to a cash prize for the last four teams standing.
Delta Upsilon’s Rush Committee Chair Brett Fodor said the tournament was initially to attract new recruits to their fraternity, but with the striking tragedy in Haiti, they decided to make it a philanthropic event.
The teams must register in the Recreation Center before 12:45 p.m. Saturday, and will play 3-on-3 games until 4 p.m.
“The tournament is a great opportunity to meet new people and to help a country in desperate need,” as stated on the group’s Facebook page. In addition, according to the Web page, people who would like more information can contact Brett Fodor at 330-979-1614.
