Lindsay breaks MAC basketball all-time wins record

Junior guard Jamilah Humes led the Kent State basketball team to a 71-56 win over Cleveland State today at the M.A.C. Center.

Humes’s 23 points, six rebounds and five assists, along with Yoshica Spears’ second career double-double (14 points and 11 rebounds) highlighted the Flashes victory.

Humes was flawless from 3-point range, shooting 3-for-3, and 6-for-12 from the field, coming up just three points shy of a new career high in points.

The Flashes dominated throughout, taking a lead at 13:04 on sophomore guard Jena Stutzman’s 3-pointer they would hold for the rest of the game.

Stutzman’s recorded seven points on 3-for-9 shooting.

Despite the turnover ratios being close to even, Kent State’s 19 points off of turnovers made the difference.

The Vikings had a strong second half rally, cutting the Flashes’ lead to seven with just under eight minutes to play, but junior guard Stephanie Gibson’s 3-pointer gave Kent State the much needed momentum swing that carried the team to its fifth win of the season.

The Flashes shot 41.7 percent from the field, and 35 percent from behind the arc compared to Cleveland State’s 32.8 percent field goal percentage.

The victory gave Kent State coach Bob Lindsay his 377th career victory, making him the all-time winningest coach in Mid-American Conference basketball history.
