Book fair lets students shop for the holiday
December 2, 2009
White Hall to do some holiday shopping at Destination Book Fair all week.
The fair is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and tomorrow and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. The Instructional Resource Center is hosting the Scholastics book fair to raise money for new materials.
Organizers hope to raise $750 this year.
“We have gone up by about 25 percent every year,” said Julee Henry, the event organizer and administrative assistant for the Instructional Resource Center.
Offered items range from posters and books to learning software. The prices range from a $1 pen to $30 software.
“There is everything from things for babies to higher education materials on sale,” graduate assistant Jamie Klintworth said. “There are even cookbooks and adult best sellers.”
Henry said she thinks the end of the fall semester is the perfect time to hold the fair because of the holiday season.
“I thought a lot of college students would have younger brothers or sisters that they would want to buy things for Christmas,” Henry said.
Participation has been increasing each year. Some faculty even brought their classes to the fair, she said.
Scholastics approached Henry about hosting a book fair three years ago and has been very helpful throughout the entire process, Henry said.
“They have been great,” she said. “It brought up childhood memories of going to the book fair, and I thought it would be a cool idea.”
