The Kent State volleyball team won at Akron tonight bringing its conference and overall record back to even.
The Flashes (9-9, 2-2 Mid-American Conference)fell to Buffalo on Friday.
After losing the first set against Buffalo 25-14, Kent State came back to win the second 25-19. The Flashes, however, could not gain momentum and lost the following two sets 25-19 and a close 27-25.
“We let (the match) get away last night,” Kent State coach Glen Conley said. “That was really frustrating for us.”
Tonight, the Flashes faced Akron, and after losing the first set 26-24, came back and defeated the Zips 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20. The first two sets proceeded with a point for point battle before the Flashes seized momentum in the third.
The fourth set took off with triple blocking until Freshman Meredith Paskert blocked a kill from Akron during match point to claim the match.
“We had to take care of the ball and I think we did that,” senior Katie Veatch said. “We played really well as a team.”
Conley said the team overcame multiple errors to take the match against Akron.
Kent State returns home this week to face Miami at 7 p.m. on Friday in the M.A.C. Center.
