After four sets and two hours of play, the Kent State volleyball team fell to Pittsburgh, 3-1, yesterday at the Fitzgerald Field House.

The Flashes played four close sets (18-25, 26-24, 22-25 and 21-25) with Pittsburgh (3-1) before losing their fourth match this season.

Kent State coach Glen Conley said the Flashes played well despite the loss. He said the Flashes’ key problem was being unable to recognize when Pittsburgh cracked.

“We are developing chemistry,” Conley said. “Pittsburgh was scrambling for a while there, but some of our players couldn’t recognize it when it happened.”

Pittsburgh outside hitter Amy Town and freshman outside hitter Meredith Paskert each starred with kills. Town, a junior, led the Panthers with 20 kills, while Paskert led the Flashes with 11 kills.

“Meredith is great because she is universal (on the court),” sophomore middle blocker Liva Brivule said. “She plays well.”

Conley said Kent State played tough against a top-ranked team and is looking forward to the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va. this weekend.
