Simpson allegedly embezzled $5,945

Former Kent State employee Tom Simpson was indicted and charged with grand theft Aug. 5. He plead guilty in the Portage County Court of Common Pleas Aug. 10.

Simpson could face up to 18 months in prison. No date for a sentencing hearing has been set.

According to court documents, he is alleged to have embezzled $5,945 from Kent State between April 1, 2008, and Aug. 31, 2008.

Simpson, who worked for the Center for Student Involvement, was a former adviser for the now-defunct All Campus Programming Board. He was terminated from the university in April 2009.

Tom Neumann, associate vice president of university communication and marketing, would not comment on the reason Simpson was let go.

Neumann said the university has internal auditing procedures it follows to ensure similar incidents don’t happen.

Simpson is the co-owner of the Kent Stage.
