AEPi reaches KSU milestone
Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi will celebrate its Diamond Jubilee today – 60 years here at Kent State.
Members say they are excited for the milestone.
“I think it speaks volumes about what we’ve accomplished here,” public relations chair Aaron Kaufman said. “We’ve established the foundations of a fraternity that will live on after our ten years here’s through.”
Vice President Matt Cohen said the anniversary of the organization’s founding at Kent State makes him optimistic for its future.
“I think we were the third fraternity established here,” Cohen said. “I’m hoping for another 60 years here.”
Joel Abramson, Alpha Epsilon Pi president, said his family ties to the fraternity make the event all the more memorable.
“Personally, it has a lot of meaning to me because my grandfather was in the first pledge class here at Kent,” Abramson said.
This year the fraternity won Alpha Xi Delta’s annual Xi Man Competition and put on a performance at Delta Zeta’s Lipsync, raising money for both charities. They’ve also received academic nods with several members on the Dean’s List and in Order of Omega, a Greek honor and leadership society.
“Aside from our achievements in the classroom and philanthropically, we’ve shown a fair amount of growth in the last two years, initiating 16 new quality brothers in all,” said Ben Spott, vice president of scholarship for Interfraternal Council and past Alpha Epsilon Pi president.
Alpha Epsilon Pi currently boasts 24 brothers, nine of whom live in the fraternity’s house on East College Avenue.
“Obviously, this is a big deal for us and we’re very excited to have had this kind of longevity,” Spott said. “Right now, our focus is on expanding as a chapter and being able to plan ahead for another 60 years.”
