Fisher helps team win Portsmouth Invitational
April 12, 2009
Al Fisher took his last shot for the Kent State men’s basketball team in March, but he still hasn’t finished winning championships.
Fisher helped lead the Norfolk Naval Shipyard team to the championship of the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this weekend in Portsmouth, Va.
The former Flashes’ guard averaged 9.7 points and 3.3 assists in his team’s three games at the Portsmouth Invitational, an annual tournament held for 64 seniors who hope to play professionally. He scored six points in the championship game, icing the 72-69 victory by hitting two free throws with 4 seconds to play.
Fisher led the Flashes in scoring the past two seasons, averaging 15.1 points per game this season and 13.9 ppg in 2007-08. He was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year last season and was named to the All-MAC First Team both seasons.
