Christ to speak on war on drugs tonight
April 21, 2009
Former police officer Peter Christ will speak at 7:30 tonight in the Michael Schwartz Center auditorium.
Christ is a member of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, an organization against drug prohibition, and is an advocate against the war on drugs.
The event is sponsored by the Kent chapter of Students for Sensible Drug Policy. The organization is trying to pass a good Samaritan policy on campus that will allow students to contact authorities in an emergency without fear of getting in legal trouble if they possess drugs.
Chris Wallis, junior photojournalism major and president of the group, said the speech will give a different viewpoint on the war on drugs.
“I think a lot of people are going to realize that police officers, even though their job is to lock up criminals, they also realize the drug war is a waste of money,” Wallis said.
