BOWLING GREEN – The Kent State women’s basketball team fell just short against No. 25 Bowling Green today at Anderson Arena in Bowling Green, 61-54.

The Flashes (17-9, 6-8 Mid-American Conference) held leads through most of the game, including a slim 50-48 advantage with four minutes left to play. The Falcons (25-2, 14-0) hit 10 of 12 free throws down the stretch to edge Kent State.

“I told our team before the game,” Kent State coach Bob Lindsay said, “in order to beat these guys here, you would have to play basically an errorless game. We did not do that.”

After leading 26-21 at halftime, the Flashes fell victim in the second half to Bowling Green sophomore forward Lauren Prochaska, who was held scoreless in the first half. Prochaska scored 25 of the Falcons’ 40 second-half points to clinch a MAC regular- season title for her team.

“Lauren Prochaska obviously had a great second half,” Lindsay said. “We didn’t do a very good job defending her in that half. She’s an excellent player.”

For Kent State, sophomore guard Jamilah Humes and junior guard Rachel Bennett both scored 14 points to lead the team. Overall, the women shot 22-of-41 from inside the perimeter. The Flashes missed all nine shots from 3-point range.

With the win, Bowling Green extended its winning streak to a school-record 25 games.

After back-to-back road losses, Kent State will return to the M.A.C. Center at 7 p.m. Wednesday to take on Buffalo.
