Student organizations unite to vote
November 3, 2008
Student organizations will unite one final time to encourage students to vote from noon to 4:30 p.m. today in Risman Plaza.
Un1te ’08 will feature performances from Carlos Jones and The Speedbumps, and speakers from Power Vote.
“The reason (for the rally) is to get students to vote early,” said C.J. Williams, College Democrats vice president. “We’re going to have shuttles go to the Portage County Board of Elections, and it’s just to inform students to vote and how important voting is, especially this year.”
Dylan Sellers, Black United Students historian and co-founder of the Un1te coalition, said nothing like this has happened on Kent campus in terms of student groups uniting since the ’70s.
Un1te ’08 is coordinated by College Democrats, Black United Students, the Muslim Student Association, All Campus Programming Board, Kent Political Union, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and PRIDE!Kent.
