Central Washington University looks at Gaudino to fill spot

James L. Gaudino, dean of the College of Communication and Information, has been chosen as one of the four finalists for president at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash.

When Gaudino applied nearly six weeks ago, he told Provost Robert Frank, as well as the four directors of the schools of Communication Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, Library and Information Science and Visual Communication Design.

“I didn’t apply because of dissatisfaction with Kent State or as dean of CCI,” Gaudino said.

Rather, Gaudino said he is very satisfied with his current work and position at Kent State.

“I am interested in the role I might play as president of a university,” Gaudino said on why he chose to apply.

He said he wanted to see if there was an opportunity for him to be an attractive candidate for president.

Central Washington University has been looking for a new president since president Jerilyn S. McIntyre first announced her retirement in January 2008. She has served as president since January 2000.

Gaudino came to Kent State in July 2003 – a year after the College of Communications and Information began.

Before becoming dean of CCI, Gaudino was the executive director of the National Communication Association in Washington.

“I came to Kent State because of the wonderful opportunity presented by the forming of CCI,” Gaudino said.
