The 2008 Bowman Cup has become the “Race for Ability,” as an effort to encourage people of all ability levels to participate.

Along with the annual Bowman Cup 5K race, there will also be a ‘1-mile Walk and Roll.’

The Department of Recreational Services and Student Accessibility Services added the race this year, as they wanted to ensure all individuals with disabilities are able to compete.

The “1-mile Walk and Roll” is aimed at raising awareness for the Special Olympics, and portions of the race’s proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics.

The winner of the “1-mile Walk and Roll” will be announced at the award ceremony following the races, and he or she will receive a prize package from Kent State athletics.

Registration for either event ends tomorrow at 7:45 a.m. The races will begin following registration, starting with the 5K race at 8 a.m. and the “1-mile Walk and Roll” at 9 a.m. The cost for the “1-mile Walk and Roll” race is $10.

The Bowman Cup began as a series of events taking place throughout Homecoming week, with the winning team receiving the “Bowman Cup.” In 2000, it was changed to a 5K race and was opened to the public.
