Group plans to set up tables in Student Center

The Undergraduate Student Government aims to educate students about voting by setting up tables in the Student Center next week.

Currently, USG is focusing on “letting students know about where they need to go to vote,” executive director Jonathan Bey said after yesterday’s 20-minute USG meeting.

USG will have a table Monday and Tuesday on the first floor of the Student Center with information about where students should go to vote.

Students who live in Koonce, Leebrick and Wright halls will vote at the United Methodist Church. The church is on State Route 59 across from the BP gas station. All other students who live on campus will vote at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Students living on campus only need to bring a photo ID to the polls, preferably a driver’s license, Bey said. It does not need to match the address listed on students’ voting cards.

Off-campus students need to bring a photo ID in addition to a utility bill or bank statement with their local address.

If students are unsure where they’re supposed to vote, they can contact the Portage County Board of Elections at (330) 297-3511.

In other business, Bey said he wants to prepare another speaker for the spring after the success of last week’s speaker, Dick Morris.

“I want to get more people involved in the selection process,” he said.

To do this Bey said he wants to contact student organizations and enlist their help with the selection process. The theme of the speaker program is “Leaders of Our Time,” about influential people of the last 20 to 21 years, the average age of a typical college student.
