AAUP taking nominations for new executive officers
September 2, 2008
The Kent State faculty union is now taking nominations for executive officers.
According to a memo from the American Association of University Professors to its members, the nominations and elections committee is seeking nominations for first vice president, second vice president, secretary and treasurer.
Eric Mintz, chair for the AAUP nominations and elections committee, said that AAUP members can nominate themselves or another faculty member for positions.
“This is something we do every year,” Mintz said. “I contact them to make sure they are interested.”
Every fall, officer positions are up for election. The only exception is the president, who is elected in the spring. Nominees are voted on by council members, not the whole membership, at the first council meeting of the school year.
According to the memo, nominations must be sent to AAUP by 5 p.m., Sept. 9. The nominations and elections committee will place all nominations on the ballot at the Sept. 12 council meeting.
Those elected to the executive committee will assume their positions immediately and continue to carry their term until the first council meeting of the following academic year.
