Blue and Gold fund, Varsity ‘K’ sponsoring annual golf outing
July 15, 2008
The Blue and Gold Annual Fund and Varsity “K” will host their annual golf outing at 1 p.m. July 30 at the Kent State University Golf Course.
The outing is one of several special events hosted each year by the Blue and Gold Athletic Annual Fund to raise money for the support of over 400 student-athletes.
“Our annual fund pretty much supports scholarships for student-athletes,” said Amy Morris, assistant director of athletic advancement. “And the annual fund also encompasses a lot of operating costs and specialized projects, like locker room projects.”
The proceeds from the golf outing are specifically earmarked as scholarship money for Kent State student athletes.
The cost for the outing is $100 per golfer and includes lunch and a steak dinner. Paid entries must be received by July 21. The cost for dinner only is $25.
Morris said the organization typically hosts 33 foursomes that largely consist of donors and Varsity “K” members with an additional 50 to 75 people in attendance for dinner. Coaches, student-athletes and administrators will be on the course throughout the day representing their sport.
“It is just a really nice chance for everyone to come out and have fun and interact with our coaches,” Morris said.
Prizes, including donated items from community members and Kent State, will be awarded to the winners of the four-man scramble and winners in the hole-in-one contest. Prizes will also be raffled during the outing.
Hole sponsorships are available for $150 and sponsors receive sign recognition at their designated hole and recognition in the program. The deadline to sponsor a hole is today.
