Stark campus is hosting the first showing of the film One Water, since its world premiere at the Miami International Film Festival last month. The premiere is at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Canton Palace Theatre, as part of Stark campus’ celebration of Earth Day.

Stark campus Dean Betsy Boze saw the film after being invited to the festival by Lacey Hoover, president of the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation.

While in Miami last month, Boze had the opportunity to meet the creators of the documentary. One Water, a film about the world and its relationship to water, was produced by the University of Miami, Florida.

Written, produced and co-directed by Sanjeev Chatterjee, vice dean of the University of Miami School of Communication, the film is narrated by the university’s president, Donna E. Shalala. Also involved in the project were editor and co-director, Ali Habashi, University of Miami director of the Edward H. Arnold Center for Confluent Media Studies; professor Ed Talavera as director of photography; and Thomas M. Sleeper, who composed and conducted the orchestra for the film’s music.

“When I was meeting with the producers I told them about the Cousteau family coming to campus and we decided, there on the spot, that Earth Day would be the perfect time to show the film,” Boze said.

This will be the first public screening of the documentary, Boze said. The event is free, but tickets are required to attend. Tickets are available at the Palace Theatre box office or Stark campus Main Hall information desk.
