The university is seeking a successor to Aimee Huter, whose two-year role as the undergraduate student trustee for the Board of Trustees ends this semester.

Greg Jarvie, associate vice president of student affairs and dean of students, said the student trustee will be able to “see how the day-to-day operations work from a different standpoint” by attending Board of Trustees meetings and subcommittee meetings.

“They really will be able to have a voice in responding to what the student body thinks,” he said. “I just think that’s a wonderful opportunity for students.”

People within the university can nominate a student, or students can apply for the non-voting position on the Board of Trustees, Jarvie said. Applications are due March 28 by 5 p.m. to Room 250 of the Student Center, the Office of the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

Jarvie said the Student Trustee Search Committee, chaired by Huter, will review the applications and choose qualified students to advance to a round of interviews. The committee will then recommend five students from the interview pool to send to Gov. Ted Strickland’s office for a final selection and appointment.

Jarvie said the search committee, which meets for the first time Friday, will include student representation from the Undergraduate Student Senate, Graduate Student Senate and Black United Students. He said the committee has already received two applications for the position.

To apply, Jarvie said students must be residents of Ohio, registered voters and be able to fulfill the two-year appointment until May 16, 2010. The trustee will be named this summer and will begin in the fall.
