Track team competes and rests up before MAC championship

With the Mid American Conference championship meet only three weeks away, Kent State’s indoor track and field teams will compete in the Roo-Town Open tonight at 7 p.m. in the University of Akron Stile Athletic Field House.

Because the meet will not keep a team score, the athletes will only compete in one event each, coach Bill Lawson said.

“We’re not putting people to task in two and three different events,” he said.

“They’re going to concentrate on one event only to maybe get a better performance.”

Also, Lawson said the middle and distance runners will take the meet off.

“Overall, our team is a little tired,” he said. “We need a mini-break to get people healthy.”

Leaving the team for the weekend, senior Nick Ivancic and freshman Destin Heasley will travel to Cornell University to compete in an indoor heptathlon.

“They’re trying to get better marks and work on their events for the MAC,” Lawson said.
