Residence halls decrease consumption of energy during monthlong competition

A final meter reading revealed that the residence halls decreased energy consumption by 12.3 percent on average during the one-month conservation competition.
Stopher and Johnson halls were the only halls that increased energy consumption.
THE RESULTS
1. Twin Towers: 20.4 percent decrease 2. Centennial Courts A-F: 18 percent decrease 3. Prentice, Dunbar, Verder and Engleman halls: 16.5 percent decrease 4. Allerton Apartments: 16.2 percent decrease 5. Small Group: 13.6 percent decrease 6. Eastway: 10.6 percent decrease 7. Tri-Towers and Korb Hall: 6.7 percent decrease 8. Lake and Olson halls: 4.8 percent decrease 9. Stopher and Johnson halls: 11.2 percent increase |
Thomas Dunn, associate director of Campus Environment and Operations, calculated that students saved 230,662 kilowatt-hours – the equivalent of 34 cars’ emissions – during the competition.
The competition, which ran from Oct. 15 through Nov. 13, compared energy consumption from the same time period last year to the consumption from this year.
