Kent State’s best chance to attend a bowl game depends on the fans.
The mascot, Flash, will win an automatic bid to the 2008 Capital One Bowl: a mascot challenge, a competition for the nation’s best mascot, if he’s voted in.
Currently, Flash is No. 3 in write-in votes in this year’s challenge. If he reaches No.1, he will not only earn a place in next year’s top 12, but the Athletic Department will also receive a $1,000 scholarship for the mascot program.
Flash said he’s already getting some support from an unexpected source.
The University of Akron’s mascot, Zippy, who is in first place in this year’s competition, is spreading the word.
“You can vote once a day, every day from now until December 27, and when they vote they will vote for Zippy and they’ll put Flash as their write-in vote,” Flash said. “That’s what Akron’s doing; they are trying to promote Flash at the same time.”
