Increased security starts at Tri-Towers

A 20-person fight in the Tri-Towers Rotunda Sunday morning has led Residence Services to restrict access to the building, said Betsy Joseph, director of Residence Services.

Starting at midnight tonight, all doors leading into the hallways connecting the Tri-Towers Rotunda to the residence halls will be locked from 12 to 7 a.m. every night.

Students who are not residents of Tri-Towers will have to enter the rotunda through doors across from the area desk. Residents of Tri-Towers will have to swipe their keycard an extra time to enter their residence hall.

Joseph said the fight ended before police arrived, and no damage to the lounge occurred. Still, she said she is concerned for students’ safety.

“I just don’t want to see something more serious than that happen,” she said.

Joseph said students will still be able to bring guests with them into the residence halls, but they will be responsible for their guests’ actions.
